# Audiences you define once and use everywhere.

> Bixlow audiences are named rules about the visitor — country, language, device, source, UTMs, new or returning, and your site's own attributes — reused across workflows and A/B tests to decide who sees each change.

"Google Ads visitors on mobile" or "customers on the Pro plan" are created once, with a name, and work the same for a personalization as for a test. The agent builds them from a single sentence.

- **Reusable:** In workflows and tests
- **Attributes:** Visit, source and custom
- **Logic:** Rules with AND / OR
- **Country:** From the network, not the browser

## Why segmentation often costs more work than it saves

The right segment almost always exists. The problem is defining it well and keeping it identical everywhere.

### Every tool has its own segment

The same "campaign visitor" is defined three times in three places, and each one counts something different.

### Rules get copied by hand

Every personalization repeats its own conditions. Changing a list of countries means editing five workflows.

### The browser decides the country

If location comes from what the browser claims, anyone can appear to be anywhere.

### What your site knows never arrives

Your site knows whether the visitor is logged in or which plan they are on, but your personalization tool does not.

## How an audience is created and used

An audience is a project-level object, not a setting buried inside one workflow.

1. **Describe it.** Tell the agent who you want to reach or build the rules yourself: attribute, operator and value, combined with AND and OR.
2. **Pass in your own data.** If you need data only your site has, like the plan or whether the visitor is logged in, send it with window.bixlow.identify().
3. **Use it in a workflow or a test.** A workflow points at an audience to decide who it runs for; a test, to decide who enters it.
4. **Change it in one place.** Edit the audience and every workflow and test that uses it applies the new rule.

## Precise targeting, no code

Useful attributes, clear operators and a single definition for the whole project.

### Attributes: Who they are, where from and how they arrive

Visit attributes are available from day one, with nothing to configure.

- Country, language, device (mobile, tablet, desktop), browser and operating system.
- New or returning visitor, current URL and landing page.
- Referrer and the five UTM parameters.

### Your own data: What your site knows, too

With one line of JavaScript, your site passes Bixlow the attributes only it knows.

- window.bixlow.identify({ ... }) with any attributes you need.
- Examples: plan, logged in, customer tier.
- Used in rules just like any other attribute.

### Rules: Operators for every case

From "equals" to regular expressions, combined with AND and OR.

- Equals, not equals, in list, not in list, contains and starts with.
- Regex, greater than, less than, exists and does not exist.
- Country is read at the network edge, so nobody can fake it from the browser.

## The agent turns a sentence into rules

Tell it who you want to reach and the agent creates the audience with the right attributes and operators, ready for review.

### You decide

- Which segments matter to your business.
- Which of your own data your site passes in.
- Which workflows and tests use each audience.
- Publishing: nothing changes on your site without your approval.

### The agent does

- Creates the audience from your description.
- Picks the attributes and operators.
- Connects it to the workflow or the test.
- Suggests segments worth treating differently.

### An audience in Bixlow

- **Name:** Google Ads on mobile, US
- **Rule 1:** utm_source equals google
- **Rule 2:** Device equals mobile
- **Rule 3:** Country in list: US
- **Combination:** 1 AND 2 AND 3
- **Used in:** Homepage personalization · product page test

## FAQ

### Which attributes can I use in an audience?

Country, language, device, browser, operating system, new or returning visitor, current URL, landing page, referrer, the five UTM parameters and any custom attribute your site passes with window.bixlow.identify().

### Can I use my cookies or the dataLayer in an audience?

Not directly. If a value lives in a cookie or the dataLayer, pass it to Bixlow with window.bixlow.identify() and you can use it in any rule.

### Can one audience be used for both personalization and testing?

Yes. The same audience can decide who a workflow runs for and who enters an A/B test. Edit it and the change applies everywhere it is used.

### How does Bixlow know whether a visitor is new or returning?

Bixlow uses a first-party identifier stored in the visitor's browser, with no personal data.
