# Measure what pays the bills.

> Bixlow goals are the business outcomes a project measures — purchase, add to cart, checkout, lead, click or custom — detected without code by click, URL, form submit or dataLayer event, or with window.bixlow.track(), with a value so revenue is measured too.

Purchases, leads, add-to-carts: define what counts as success on your site, with its value, and Bixlow detects it without touching code. It works from day one, with or without a test running.

- **Kinds:** Purchase, cart, checkout, lead, click, custom
- **Detection:** No-code or via API
- **Value:** Fixed or dynamic
- **Test required:** No

## Why measuring conversions is often the hardest part

Before you can improve anything, you have to be able to measure it. That is where most teams get stuck.

### Every new event needs a developer

Tracking a button click or a form submit turns into another ticket, and in the meantime there is no data.

### Clicks get measured, not money

The variant lifts clicks, but nobody knows whether sales went up.

### The data already exists elsewhere

Your site already sends purchases to GA4 through the dataLayer, but your testing tool ignores it.

### No test, no measurement

Many tools only measure inside an experiment. A change shipped without a test is a change shipped blind.

## How a goal is set up

A goal is defined once in the project and used across every workflow, test and analytics view.

1. **Choose what counts as success.** Purchase, add to cart, checkout, lead, click or a custom goal.
2. **Tell Bixlow how to detect it.** A click on an element, a visit to a URL, a form submit or a GA4 or GTM dataLayer event. If none fit, one line with window.bixlow.track().
3. **Give it a value.** A fixed value, like what a lead is worth, or a dynamic one, like the order total, so you measure revenue and not just conversions.
4. **Use it everywhere.** As the primary metric or a guardrail in a test, or to measure a personalization or a campaign without a test.

## Business measurement, no code

What matters, detected in the simplest way your site allows.

### No-code detection: Without touching your site

Most goals are set up from Bixlow using the script you already installed.

- Click on an element (CSS selector).
- Visit to a URL or a form submit.
- GA4 or GTM dataLayer event, with value and currency.

### Tracking API: For everything else

When success is not visible on the page, your site tells Bixlow with one line of JavaScript.

- window.bixlow.track(key, { value, currency }).
- Fixed or dynamic value per conversion.
- Revenue, not just conversion counts.

### Across the product: One goal, many uses

The same goals feed tests, personalizations and analytics.

- Primary metric of an A/B test.
- Guardrails: metrics that must not get worse.
- Measurement without a test, on every plan.

## The agent sets up measurement with you

Tell it what you want to measure and the agent creates the goal, picks how to detect it and connects it to the workflow or the test.

### You decide

- Which outcomes matter to your business.
- What each conversion is worth.
- Which goal is primary in each test.
- Which metrics must not get worse.

### The agent does

- Creates the goal with the right kind.
- Picks the detector: click, URL, form or dataLayer.
- Connects it as primary metric or guardrail.
- Explains what each goal is measuring.

### A goal in Bixlow

- **Name:** Purchase
- **Kind:** Purchase
- **Detection:** GA4 dataLayer purchase event
- **Value:** Dynamic · amount and currency from the event
- **Used in:** Product page test · summer campaign

## FAQ

### Do I need an A/B test to measure conversions?

No. Goals work on every plan, with or without a test. You can measure a personalization, a campaign or your site as it is.

### Can I use the events I already send to GA4?

Yes. Bixlow can detect a GA4 or Google Tag Manager dataLayer event, including its value and currency, with no extra code.

### How do I measure revenue, not just conversions?

Give the goal a value: fixed, like what a lead is worth to you, or dynamic, like the order total coming from the dataLayer or window.bixlow.track().

### What if my checkout is on another domain?

Purchases on a checkout hosted on an external domain need extra setup. Bixlow Studio can help you get it ready.

### What is a guardrail?

A secondary goal that must not get worse. In a test, if the variant lifts the primary metric but hurts a guardrail, Bixlow warns you.
